The addition of DNA Loading Buffer to a DNA sample adds color and increases the density to simplify the loading process. It contains two dyes, bromphenol blue and xylene cyanol FF, at low concentrations to avoid masking DNA fragments in the samples. In an electric field, the dyes move toward the anode at predictable rates. After electrophoresis, the buffer yields two clearly separated bands of color: in agarose gels from 0.5% to 1.4% in concentration, bromphenol blue migrates with 300bp linear double-stranded DNA fragment, whereas xylene cyanol FF co-migrates with linear double-stranded DNA approximately 4kb length.

Description: DNA SafeStain Plus is a highly sensitive green fluorescent DNA/RNA staining reagent for detecting nucleic acids in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. This unique stain gives high sensitivity for detection of double-stranded or singlestranded DNA and RNA. Gels can be post-stained or the stain can be added to gels during gel casting or to the gel running buffer. DNA SafeStain Plus has two excitation wavelength peaks at about 290nm and 490nm, and an emission wavelength at 530nm, making it compatible with a standard UV light box, a blue-light transilluminator, or a gel reader equipped with visible light excitation; such as, a 488 nm laserbased gel scanner. DNA SafeStain Plus is in a 10,000X concentrated format that can be easily diluted 10,000 times for use in precast gel staining, or 5,000 times for use in post gel staining. Ops Diagnostics Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer, Filter Sterilized
Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer (Filter Sterilized) is a proprietary solution of hydrolyzed plant protein (a substitute for bovine serum albumin) and carbohydrate lyoprotectant meant for the long-term preservation of microorganisms, including both bacteria and fungi. This formulation evolved from Reagent 18, a proven solution for microbial freeze drying described in the ATCC lyophilization manual. Superior to traditional additives like sucrose and skim milk, Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer has a 90% viability of bacteria and is free of all animal products and proteins. This buffer maintains microorganisms’ viability through freezing, water removal, and subsequent storage of freeze dried microbial samples. While sucrose often collapses and shows slow dissolution, OPS Diagnostics’ buffer is less likely to collapse and the dissolution of freeze dried cells is quite rapid.
